Looking forward

We at Muddy Williamson told you we’d be shifting gears a bit, now that the election is over.  We’re setting out to explore some of the more important issues facing the College and the Board of Trustees.

As we examine the agencies that regulate Board actions, we’ll be looking at things like closed session minutes, the Open Meetings Act, the new community college accreditation process and how well JALC is meeting the requirements of these processes, mandates and state statutes.  And, of course, we’ll still be talking about old favorites like hiring improprieties!

We hope you’ll share your knowledge and views.  What else should we look into on behalf of faculty, staff, students, voters and taxpayers of the John A. Logan College community college district?

Just to give you something to chew on, here’s a link to the Southern Illinoisan article on the last Board meeting

  1. I would love to see a breakdown on student enrollment by counties in our district. Anyone know where a person can get a copy of this?

  2. Review 2012 Audit, p. 28, 29, look closely at BUDGET vs. Actual balances in Gen. Fund. Also, p. 5e will show you where money is going, and where it is NOT. When will 2013 Budget be out?

  3. Hey anonymusses, we don't have answers to your questions, but we're still workinh on it. anonymus 1, want to share why you're interested in the enrollment by county? Breakdown by county doesn't seem to be on the school website? and we don't know HOW to compare budget to "gen fund" or where to find such info, though of course we're intrigued.

  4. The breakdown in students by county in the Logan school district should show certain individuals where we are weak in getting more students for the school! More students means more money to the college in tuition and possibly create more educational opportunities and jobs for individuals in these counties with better emphasis on marketing and recruiting in the weaker areas! If the student enrollment is down as advertised is it due to the economy,no Friday classes or does it mean certain areas need improvement in MARKETING and recruiting? I am curious of the percentage of the students coming from Jackson County compared to Williamson,Perry and Franklin Counties.
