What if Sheriff Kilquist becomes State Representative Sheriff Kilquist?

"I don't want to be labeled with anybody. I've never been labeled with anybody. Bill Kilquist is his own boy. Bill Kilquist is the voters' boy," he said. (Southern Illiniosan September 27, 2013)  –

Actually, Sheriff Kilquist has been labeled, and not all that long ago, it was by Don Brewer, Sheriff Kilquist became Don Brewer's boy when Sheriff Kilquist ran for the John A. Logan College Board of Trustees in April 2013.

Is it really possible that Sheriff Kilquist would be his own person?  When Sheriff Kilquist was drafted to run for his first time at John A. Logan College, it was at the bequest of Don (the Don) Brewer.  Why? To protect and enhance the careers of the sons of Brewer et. al.  And the sheriff has done a great job of doing what Brewer has requested of him – son protection, political patronage, paybacks, retaliation and more.

So we have to ask, when Sheriff Kilquist says he is his own person when wanting to run for Illinois State Representative, is he really his own boy?  The voters' boy?

During the last several months, Speaker Mike Madigan has been trying to recruit someone from Jackson County to run for State Representative for the 112th Legislative District. (This seat is currently held by Rep. Mike Bost)  There is already a Democrat running for that seat, (Tony Mayville) but Speaker Madigan had to have someone from Jackson County.  After asking about 20 other people to run, Sheriff Kilquist was asked and he said yes.  Sheriff Kilquist met with a representative of the Speaker's staff and he was promised some sort of financial support. Then Sheriff Kilquist traveled to Springfield to meet with a higher level representative of the Speaker's staff where they discussed staff and financial support for Sheriff Kilquist's campaign.  Finally, Sheriff Kilquist traveled to Springfield to meet with the Speaker!

At this meeting, Sheriff Kilquist and the Speaker settled on an amount for the campaign - $1 million!!!  So, Sheriff Kilquist is really going to be his own boy? Will Sheriff Kilquist/Representative Kilquist (boy of Speaker Madigan) really help John A. Logan College in recruiting, retaining, and graduating students?  Or will Sheriff Kilquist/Representative Kilquist just be a tool for Speaker Madigan?

Does John A. Logan College really need Sheriff Kilquist/Representative Kilquist?

  2. 1 Million Dollars??? Wow...He should run on that budget! Lets all get behind him and vote for him so he gets the hell off the Logan Board. I am sure he won't win but he won't turn down 1 million dollar campaign money..due to his ego. I now realize how stupid political campaign money is spent ...giving Kilquist 1 million dollars for his running of political office just makes me realize how damn stupid our Illinois politicians are

  3. Are you sure about the money? Where are you getting your numbers? That's a lot of money for a position like that.

    1. www.elections.il.gov is the website, you can see the facts right there. Go see how much Madigan is pouring into the 115th to win this seat. I don't need to tell you the facts, which you wouldn't believe, look them up yourself.

  4. No matter where the individual got the number of $ Kilquist gets or promised it just shows the ignorance of money spent for an election. We the voters are at blame for all the mess Illinois and Federal govt. has gotten us into. If you can't educate yourself of candidates available prior to an election and you don't go vote; the representatives who run for their "ego" and self benefits will always be in office

  5. I LOVE IT......"no matter where the individual got the number".......facts and accountability are so bothersome

  6. fACTS AND ACCOUNTABILITY are very bothersome to the BOT of John Logan and that has been proven in the past! When the facts are thrown out about board decisions some board members have just said they are Slander, etc.

  7. How much more quiet time for Kilquist to announce his run for state rep? Wonder what he is up to now? Probably begging for support but he is the Voters Boy! Does he actually think that anyone outside Jackson County knows who the Sheriff is?

  8. Been wondering the same thing. This must be killing him. Finally a chance for a big stage, and mean old Madigan won't cut him a check till he lets go of his security blanket. Gives the Don time to remind Sheriff Bill who helped him get hired as Security Czar, then run for the board again while still collecting a paycheck for doing nothing. Pretty persuasive.

  9. Hey boys....lets keep trashing Kilquist so when he wins and the state decides not to completely make all the payments to the college we have no one to go to for aid in getting funding restored

  10. Kilquist win? Doubtful. He alone wouldn't be able to restore funding for the college and as a rookie legislator his pull within the ranks will be minimal. No ex sheriff has that much power but we do know his vindictive attitude will be in full force and his hat size will increase if he runs and wins! Anyone who thinks Kilquist will ever help Logan in any position must be KILQUIST BOY!

  11. Strange.....you have no facts so I must only speculate (should fit right in with this BS Blog)......why would Madigan spend a cool million on a seat that doesn't matter and not significant

  12. Open note to BILL KILQUIST: THE Pbulic needs to know what you are going to do; your agenda, etc. No matter how much Madigan supports you financially and party help- we need to know what your agenda is. How will you continue to serve the Logan BOT while campaigning within the rep. district? Questions will arise about your past accomplishments, etc. while serving on the BOT at Logan and while director of security at the different institutions. You have received alot of criticism and some of it was not merited in your last election but are you prepared emotionally to handle what you will be faced with if running for a position within the Illinois govt?

  13. What a horrible tragedy this is .... Kilquist is winning! The Congressional polls that just came out shows Kilquist is winning by 47% to Mayfields 14%. Courtesy of Madigans million dollar endorsement funding, Kilquist has brutally attacked Tony Mayfield falsely through the media, phones, and mailings relentlessly. I am astonished and dumbfounded that someone with Bill Kilquists past is even running for ANY political position, let alone sling out the dirt on someone else .... and win this election, by the people! Amazing ... I have to go throw up now.

  15. I remember when candidate Terri Bryant's cousin Dr. Jane Bryant showed me another article on this ...blog... which also slammed Mr. Kilquist. It was written following the candidates forum for the John A Logan College Board of Trustee form. In hushed tones she added a great deal of validity to the frustrated rants. I remember how excited I was to receive her candid political opinion after a semester of what I believed to be her unbiased instruction. I feel cheated that I was just one of many who received her act meant to puppeteer us into influencing others to believe a genuinely good man is evil just to further her cousin's political career. So much clever effort is put into destroying this man's good character. It is so dirty and so unexpected in such a quaint and distinguished setting.

    1. Dr. Jane Bryant is NOT Terri Bryant's cousin. Bryant is Jane's married name (long time divorced), her maiden name is Harper. There are a LOT of Bryants in Jackson County that are not related to one another. Bill K is not a man of integrity, look into his past as a JALC Board Member. There were problems when he was on the board before, when he took the Head of Security position and wanted to keep his position on the board. There is more nepotism at JALC than goes on at any other state funded institution. The Board is full of partisan politics, while claiming that there is no partisanship. Another lie.

  16. Make up your mind Jane. One minute you claim to be related to Terri Bryant, the next you are pointing out lots of people have the same last name.

  17. Bryant has never been an elected official. She works for the state of Illinois in Pickneyville, IL. LOL How does that help her with being a Rep for Illinois. So doubtful that she has any knowledge of running that seat. I work for the state should I also run. NO cause Kilquist knows how to run that seat from the back of his hand. If you only knew who Bryant really is.
