As we wait

As we wait for news, wondering what the radio silence means, we here at MW were interested in the Anonymous post suggesting that this little blog would be enough to turn Rep. Kilquist against JALC.
The poster (whose initials could be BK) suggests that any criticism of Rep. Kilquist’s methods or motives would make him unwilling to go to bat for J.A.L. funding, once elected.

So, his loyalty to his past employer and his support for one of the biggest employers in his future district is so shaky that it would evaporate because of a few bloggers? He would shutdown the College out of spite, harming thousands of students and staff, just because someone suggested he was … right, not concerned with the good of the college. Ironic, huh?

So good work defending Rep. Kilquist, Anonymous. You make a good case, just not the one you may have intended.

And should he be elected and NOT fight for J.A.L.s full funding, well, there will be another election and this time Speaker Madigan may not dislike the primary opponent enough to fund his campaign

  1. is he running for the state rep job or is he taking over the Athletic Director position at John Logan...Thursday FRONT PAGE HEADLINES he draws attention to himself again as his vindictive attitude his taking over. His campaign promise to cut athletics and move more IN DISTRICT students on the athletic teams at Logan is in full force. IS THIS A VINDICTIVE attitude toward Athletics as a result of Mike Vanhorn's campaign against Kilquist and other opponents?
Facts are facts. Any out of district recruit registers to vote in a in district county which makes them in district residents for two years while at Logan. Mr Kilquist in his campaign cited poor economic times for our district but yet I doubt that the landlords of all these students who reside in our district are going to be Kilquist boys in the voting region if he keeps pushing this recruiting issue.
Why would Mr Kilquist try to micro manage the Athletic Dept.? He isn't even on the Athletic Committee . The Athletic Committee consists of Mike Hopkins and Don Brewer.. Why would he make the headlines on this issue and why isn't Don Brewer quoted on this topic; or is he ?
If this is due to the campaign that Vanhorn ran let it be known that on July 4, 2013 Vanhorn, family and friends who have supported athletics at Logan for over 25 years and the institution withdrew all their support financially and ALL communication has stopped with Mr. Halstead to avoid further conflicts to the kids at Logan and their staff. WE WILL attend the events but will not financially support the program or any programs at Logan in the future. WHY?? Answer that one yourself.
If Mr. Kilquist and the board wants headlines at the expense of good programs started by John Sala and continued through Mr. Halstead and staff or wants to micro manage the Athletic Director and his staff; we want no part of it!
The staff does a good job and watches several in district players throughout the year. They host tourneys and weekend basketball tourneys for ALL SOUTHERN Illinois players. You have to build good programs to win and I guarantee you that athletic staff will reach out to ANY bonafide player with the talent to compete in this competitive conference if the player merits. Alot of the times they even let the kids walk on if they wish.
If Mr. Kilquist is an expert in putting togeether a winning program with all local players or wants to set levels that the department must have in order to satisfy his ego then i suggest he does that in EVERY DEPARTMENT; not just athletics.
Whats next? Unbelievable! Wonder if the Salukis are next? Wonder if the Cardinals have to have all St Louis players? Wonder if the White Sox, Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks all have to have Chicago players? Isn't that fair? Ha! The Kilquist headline seeker!
Hopefully the board doesn't waste their time even discussing such a ridiculous MOTION unless it has to do with BUDGETS which I believe has already been cut. If he wants the job of running the athletic department put an application in for the coaching position or athletic director job. Until then, concentrate on issues more important ; this isn't Little League.

  2. Unfortunately Mr. Vanhorn a portion of your comment is incorrect. It is Little League with a BOT that is influenced, manipulated, and bullied by three trustees who are Little League Hall of Famers.

    1. pLEASE NOMINATE YOUR LITTLE LEAGUE HALL OF FAME BOT MEMBERS..my guess is Kilquist,Brewer and Rendleman.

  3. and how much property taxes that pay coaches salaries are paid by parents of out of district athletes.....facts are facts

  4. How much property taxes are paid by RENTERS and not home owners..none..but property taxes ARE PAID by the landlords who house these out of district athletes!
We also have alot of administrators, faculty, employees at JALC which do not live in the district so do we now require residency in the district for these individuals. It is just a ridiculous "vendetta" by Kilquist against the athletic department that should never be even discussed unless it is due to the budget. Someone who is considering leaving the board for a "better" position is just trying to make a name for himself and take care of some people who believe athletics should be strictly in district students..a la intramural programs!

  5. Been enjoying the replies on this blog, and also the comments on the southern article. What a stupid title for that article... "Kilquist says there might be too much recruiting at JAL." That doesn't even make sense. That paper is the perfect vehicle for Sherrif Bill.

  6. the paper is the DEMOCRATIC southern Illinois outlet. Sheriff Bill definitely has fantastic glamour in the Southern office with the reporters.Hopefully they keep up on ALL BOARD MEMBERS and begin to list how each one votes on each category..That is Newsworthy! I am still wondering what part of the budget that the 2 new TVS ...80" and 72" in the board rooms came out of it and the total cost of installation etc. WHAT IN THE WORLD DO THEY NEED THAT FOR?

    1. I am guessing that the TVs in the Board Room come from Institutional Support accounts. See ANNUAL BUDGET, 2014, page 3 and page 4. Please note PROVISION for CONTINGENCY funds, also.

  7. Excellent article in the Southern Illinoisan today by opinion writer Angelo Hightower regarding Mr. Kilquist's request for more representation of in district athletes at JALC. He hits the hot spots of Mr. Kilquists publicity and "vendetta" stunts of a conversation on out of district athletes. MAKE SURE YOU READ IT.! HE is on the Marion School board and is a Marion police officer. Facts are facts and he has the facts down

    1. I agree Mr. Hightower had an excellent response and opinion about athletics. FYI: Funds for Athletics are accounted for in the Auxiliary Enterprise Fund. Note Transfers IN of $1.2 mil. in BUDGET, 2014, page 12.

  9. Kilquist is a joke! Its funny he makes this a issue when he announces he is running for office. Publicity stunt again by the master of politicians! And if you have ever worked for him, you will definitely see another side of him you will not like!

  10. Your inflated sense of self importance is the only thing that is astounding here. You're like the three conspiracy theorists that follow Agent Mulder around in X-files... except not awesome in any way. You're just making random accusations without any tangible evidence outside of your desire for evidence to exist. This post is not even interesting enough to be crazy, it is just stupid. You are a stupid person with stupid thoughts in your stupid uninteresting brain. Stupid.
