Can You Trust a Trustee?

The root word in Trustees is trust.  It's hard to trust the JALC Board when not one member has ever publicaly spoken out about the unethical behaviors of fellow board members.

The most recent egregious example of this was the hiring of Bill Kilquist while he was still serving as a member of the board.  He should have resigned when he first applied for the job of director of emergency planning and risk management at the College.  Instead his resignation came AFTER the executive session where he was hired.  And he should have resigned from this job when he first submitted his petition last fall to run for the board again.  Instead that resignation came in January.

Following the Kilquist hire in August 2010, the JALC Faculty Association called for his immediate resignation during a board meeting and openly questioned the Board's reluctance to police their own.

There are some good, honest members of the current board who have to recognize the damage being done by a few.  Please speak up and you will find you are not alone – especially if some new voices are added on April 9.

  1. Exactly right. Bullies persist because of BYSTANDERS not victims!!! The public is gradually realizing how much this boards actions hurt one of the areas important resources. PLEASE go vote on April 9, and add some new faces. Strength in numbers.

  2. Don't look now but the Kilquist signs are now linked with O'Keefe signs and the Graff Signs are linked with Sniders signs. HMMM...lets see he needs 2 more members of the board to side with him. If the vote is split he gets his way if none of the new members can win the election to break up big DONS combinations. Very interesting way to keep his intimidation intact.

  3. OMG! There are Snider, Graff, Kilquist, O'Keefe, Williams, VanHorn, and Hamilton signs in peoples yards that are all alone! What does this mean? What are the "links"? Are we seeing "commies" under our beds? I've seen signs near taverns. Does that link anyone to alcohol. No, I don't think so either. How about signs in farmers, teachers, preachers and mailman's yards? What does that "link" anyone to? Is big brother watching all of you and designing some cryptic code for some nefarious purpose? I really don't think so. Maybe, just maybe, people with signs in their yards/business support that particular individual(s). Besides, didn't the faculty endorse Graff and Snider? Would it not make sense to put their signs in their yards? What is that "linked" to?

    1. How true you have it; people with signs in their yards support that candidate..Therefore your comment above means that O'Keefe and Kilquist is strong endorsed by Jake Rendleman due to the large signs on Mr. Rendlemans property. So I guess that shows the LINK..your statement is very True
      Keep the current machine together!

    2. For the love of all that is human - please review your message before you post! This is as bad as Vanhorn. Did you see the flyer in the newspaper? How does someone with a college degree produce such junk? People tend to take people more seriously when they communicate appropriately. Grammar and punctuation matter. It is not just about the content.

  4. That flyer in the paper just may have been the Southern Illinoisan errors and not Vanhorn's. The facts are facts and he provided the community with the facts and I am sure grammar and punctuation matters if you are teaching a course but Board Members do not teach ENGLISH;Board members at the present time hire what THEY feel is the person to help their cause the most. Most of all they don't want their Good Old Boys "Supper" Club interfered with or destroyed.
As far as Vanhorn not communicating appropriately;he has been out in the community talking and listening since December gathering facts and his campaign was based on citizen and faculty complaints. I imagine he is worn out by now talking to people in such a large district and cannot get the word out to everyone without putting the information needed for a important decision to the college in a flyer.
Sheila Graff is a great candidate and the board needs some new fresh female attitudes to straighten out the existing incumbents. Williams is a fresh face with goals of straightening out the existing incumbents so if Vanhorn is not your answer; who is? There are alot of new fresh ideas out there to stop the machine!

  7. Attention Blog Readers:
Make sure you read the Sunday Southern Illinoisan newspaper Letters to the Editor. Inside reports have Jake Rendleman writing a letter to the Editor and will be printed Sunday.
Perfect timing right before the election to bring light on what all of these blogs are about. Enjoy.
