What's the answer?

A worrisome development in the race is the apparent union of Jim Snider and John O'Keefe.  There are reports of yard signs, in Jackson County, presenting O'Keefe and Snider as a team.

Snider's campaign literature asks the question, "Why would you want to replace or remove existing board members when the college is operating so smoothly?"  It goes on to state, 'Don't vote for change when change is not needed.'  Along with saying he wants to 'Stay the course', the candidate asks that voters please give him, "along with the other present board members...  the opportunity to keep JALC 'Steady as she goes.'"

The faculty union has endorsed Cheryl Graff and Jim Snider.  Even a Snider/O'Keefe ticket would keep Bill Kilquist off the Board.  But, returning the incumbents, especially both of them, implies one buys Snider's contention that change is not needed.  If that's the case, one has to be satisfied not only with the finances, building program and academics that he touts, but also with the hiring procedures, micromanagement and alleged cronyism.

The question should be, "Is the college operating as smoothly, and as ethically, as it could be?"

  2. The endorsement of Graff and Snider by the Union tells me they are simply satisfied with the present situation. The two candidates are very good candidates but are they the right ones at this stage of the game.
Both have experience on the board and have the background information that the new candidates would acquire if elected. All of the issues brought up in the "Union" endorsement interviews with the 5 candidates who chose to participate were very similar to the questions asked in the forum. I am sure Graff and Snider did very well in this interview process but there is more to this election then EXPERIENCE on the board.
Will these 2 candidates stand up for the rights of the staff and will the "nepotism" question by the public be erased with the Snider endorsement and election. Will Graff be able to stand up to the Brewer hiring practices and refuse to go along with the less qualified individuals?
Graff is a very good candidate IF AND ONLY IF she does not give in to the male dictatorship presented by some board members. A excellent educated female would be good for the Logan Board but questions have risen about her role of Township Supervisor for the Summerset Township in Jackson County when she reportably appointed her husband to act as the Township Assessor--
If this is true what are we getting ourselves into now? Hopefully for Logans sake this is not true because she is a good candidate.
As far as Snider is concerned, he also is a good candidate but will allow the public to criticize for 6 more years the fact that board members have sons getting substantial raises. If elected Mr Snider should refrain from voting on any measures involved with his son's salary in order to avoid this criticism.
The election is not too far away..April 9th...Hopefully the citizens will go out and Vote the way we do in Federal elections. People should realize by now that their local governmental races have a major impact on their lives also;probably more so then the federal
Changes need to be made and it is now up to the Public to change them
